Does condensation overtake your windows?  As their energy efficiency has improved, our homes have become increasingly “tight” preventing fresh air from circulating between our homes and outside.  Accordingly, the air in our homes now holds significantly more water vapor than the air outside, thus causing the “sweat” in our windows.

However, the problem can be easily prevented with a few easy tricks within your home.  We must be sure air has the opportunity to flow easily throughout our home.  We can do this by:

  • Running a ceiling fan
  • Opening a fireplace damper
  • Installing a dehumidifier
  • Utilizing exhaust fans in the kitchen, bathrooms, and laundry rooms
  • Installing vents in crawl spaces and basements

Other methods to take control window condensation include keeping pillows and fabrics away from windows, covering plants, fish tanks and other water sources, and simply cracking a window in your home.
